JOSHUA

CHAPTER

15

1. The lot for the tribe of the people of Judah according to their families reached southward to the boundary of Edom, to the wilderness of Zin at the farthest south. 2. And their south boundary ran from the end of the Dead Sea, from the bay that faces southward; 3. it goes out southward of the ascent of Akrabbim, passes along to Zin, and goes up south of Kadesh-barnea, along by Hezron, up to Addar, makes a turn to Karka, 4. passes along to Azmon, goes out by the Wadi of Egypt, and comes to its end at the sea. This shall be your south boundary. 5. And the east boundary is the Dead Sea, to the mouth of the Jordan; 6. and the boundary goes up to Beth-hogdah, and passes along north of Beth-arabah; and the boundary goes up to the Stone of Bohan, Reuben's son; 7. and the boundary goes up to Debir from the valley of Achor, and so northward, turning toward Gilgal, which is opposite the ascent of Adummim, which is on the south side of the valley; and the boundary passes along to the waters of Enshemesh, and ends at En-rogel; 8. then the boundary goes up by the valley of the son of Hinnom at the southern slope of the Jebusites (that is, Jerusalem); and the boundary goes up to the top of the mountain that lies over against the valley of Hinnom, on the west, at the northern end of the valley of Rephaim; 9. then the boundary extends from the top of the mountain to the spring of the Waters of nephtoah, and from there to the towns of Mount Ephron; then the boundary bends around to Baalah (that is, Kiriath-jearim); 10. and the boundary circles west of Baalah to Mount Seir, passes along to the northern slope of Mount Jearim (that is, Chesalon), and goes down to Beth-shemesh, and passes along by Timnah; 11. the boundary goes out to the slope of the hill north of Ekron, then the boundary bends around to Shikkeron, and passes along to Mount Baalah, and goes out to Jabneel; then the boundary comes to an end at the sea. 12. And the west boundary was the Mediterranean with its coast. This is the boundary surrounding the people of Judah according to their families.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 15 verses 1 to 12)

Oh God my Father as in the case of Judah You set boundaries marking the lands that fell in his territory. As in all boundaries we are to respect those of others and even our own, so that we will not suffer the consequences of violating each other's boundaries. Oh God my Father I pray that we stick to the boundaries of heaven and never venture into the territory of the evil one Amen.

13. According to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, he gave Caleb son of Jephunneh a portion among the people of Judah, Kiriath-arba, that is Hebron (Arba was the father of Anak). 14. And Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak. 15. From there he went up against the inhabitants of Debir, now the name of Debir formerly was Kiriath-sepher.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 15 verses 13 to 15)

Oh God my Father all that You will, will take place, however all that is not according to Your will shall not take place with success. Oh God I pray that my life will be according to Your will. May I wish what is according to Your will, feel as according to Your will and also act accordingly Amen.

16. And Caleb said, "Whoever attacks Kiriath-sepher and takes it, to him I will give my daughter Achsah as wife."

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 15 verse 16)

Oh God my Father what a change in the attitude of Caleb. Previously Caleb was bargaining with Joshua so that Joshua would keep the promise that You had made to him with reference to the mentioned land. Now that You permitted him to do so, he is now in the superior position of setting down the rules. While in this superior position he also promised his own daughter as a reward in order to increase the allotted land that was promised to him.

Oh God,  my Father I pray, that if You ever permit me to be in a position of power, I will not abuse that power but remain in a state of humility and keep my eyes fixed on You Amen.

17. Othniel son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it; and he gave him his daughter Achsah as wife.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 15 verse 17)

Oh God my Father that we learn to treat each other with respect and not as property, or as a means that meets our own personal end. May consider the sanctity of marriage and not treat it as a financial transaction where one considers the losses and gains, and  where one may even to opt out of the financial commitment if it does not give an adequate return. Amen

18. When she came to him, she urged him to ask her father for a field. As she dismounted from her donkey, Caleb said to her, "What do you wish?" 19. She said to him, "Give me a present ; since you have set me in the land of the Negeb, give me springs of water as well." So Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 15 verses 18 to 19)

Oh God my Father if Caleb cared so much but to grant the wishes of his daughter and gave her property according to her wants and wishes, how much more do You provide for us, throughout each day of our lives. I therefore in name, of humanity I wish to thank You for Your divine providence Amen.

20. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the people of Judah according to their families. 21. The towns belonging to the tribe of the people of Judah in the extreme south, toward the boundary of Edom, were Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur, 22. Kinah, Dimonah, Adadah, 23. Kedesh, Hazor, Ithnan, 24. Ziph, Telem, Bealoth, 25. Hazor-hadattah, Kerioth hezron  (that is Hazor), 26. Am am, Shema, Moladah, 27. Hazar-gaddah, Heshmon, Bethpelet, 28. Hazar-shual, Beer-sheba, Biziothiah, 29. (Historical Books Joshua Chapter 15 verses 20 to 32)

Oh God my Father You view reality from a different perspective than we do. Since these early moments You invested in Judah the tribe from which You were to have Your human descent. Although this tribe was one of the smallest, You still chose it to be born from its line of descent. Amen. I thank You for loving the humble amen.

33. And in the lowland, Eshtaol, Zorah, Ashnah, 34. Zanozh, En-gannim, Tappuah, Enam, 35. Jarmuth, Adullam, Socoh, Azekah, 36. Shaaraim, Adithaim, Gederah, Gederothaim: fourteen towns with their villages.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 15 verses 33 to 36)

Oh God my Father all the earth is Yours and as owner You have the right to givìe it to anyone whom You consider as being worthy to own and possess it. Amen.

37. Zenan, Hadashah, Migdal-gad, 38. Dilan, Mizpeh, Jokthe-el, 39. Lachish, Bozkath, Eglon, Cabbon, Lahmam, Chitlish, 41. Gederoth, Beth-dagon, Naamah, and Makkedah: sixteen towns with their villages.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 15 verses 37 to 41)

Oh Mighty God and Conqueror how great and majestic is Your Name and how strong is Your power. You are our conqueror. You are able to claim one victory after another over the weak areas of my life, give us good grades in exams, promotions at the work-place or maybe in college or University. You are able to achieve what is considered as being humanly impossible. How great is Your Name my God and Father. Amen.

In a spirit of prayer let us praise Your Name oh God by clicking on the following link:-

How great is Your Name oh God!

42. Libnah, Ether, Ashan, 43. Iphtah, Ashnah, Nezib, 44. Keilah, Achzib, and Mareshah: nine towns with their villages. 45. Ekron, with its dependencies and its villages; 46. from Ekron to the sea, and all that were near Ashdod, with their villages. 47. Ashdod, its towns and its villages; Gaza, its towns and its villages; to the Wadi of Egypt, and the Great Sea with its coast.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 15 verses 42 to 47)

Oh God my Father  I thank You for being so committed to us human beings, not that we deserve it, but because of Your love for us. Ever since the time of Abraham You had promised these lands to Your people and although many years passed You remain faithful to them. I pray that one day Your people will again occupy the lands promised to them so that Your will be done and Your promise will again be fulfilled. Amen.

48. And in the hill country, Shamir, Jattir, Socoh, 49. Dannah, Kiriath-sannah (that is, Debir), 50. Anab, Eshtemoh, Anim, 51. Goshen, Holon, and Giloh; eleven towns with their villages.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 15 verses 48 to 51)

Oh God my Father You love us so much that You free us from our bondage and You make us whole, free people to dwell in Your presence. When Your people lived in Goshen during the time of the Exodus they were the slaves of the Pharaoh, now that Your promise had been fulfilled to them, You gave them possession of that same land as an inheritance Amen. Praise be to the Lord my God and Father. Amen.

 52. Arab, Dumah, Eshan, 53. Janim, Bethtappuah, Aphekah, 54. Humtah, Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), and Zior; nine towns with their villages. 55. Maon, Carmel, Ziph, Juttah, 56. Jezreel, Jokdeam, Zanoah, 57. Kain, Gilbeah, and Timnah; ten towns with their villages. 58. Halhul, Beth-zur, Gedor, 59. Maarath, Beth-anoth, and Eltekon; six towns with their villages. 60. Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim) and Rabbah; two towns with their villages. 61. In the wilderness, Beth-arabah, Middin, Secacah, 62. Nibshan, the City of Salt, and En-gedi; six towns with their villages. 63. But the people of Judah could not drive out the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so the Jebusites live with the people of Judah in Jerusalem to this day.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 15 verses 52 to 63)

Oh God my Father once You have ascribed Your boundaries there is no violating them without experiencing the consequences of having done so.  For some reason You permitted the Jebusites to live among Your people and dwell together in the same land or territory. It could be that for a particular reason You are permitting many immigrants, legal and illegal to dwell in Malta and seek their future among us. Nobody knows Your Mind oh God my Father, however I respect Your reasons and accept this as being according to Your Will Amen

Oh God my Father I would like to end this chapter with the following prayer.

It was according to Your Will that Your people occupied the promised land, region by region until in time they conquered all the lands that You allotted for each and every tribe. I pray that it is also according to Your will that the decisions that I need to make be likewise according to Your will Amen. I pray that You confirm and support my decisions Amen
