Historical Books Joshua Chapter 14

HISTORICAL BOOKS

JOSHUA

CHAPTER

14

1. These are the inheritances that the Israelites received in the land of Canaan, which the priest Eleazar, and Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the families of the tribes of the Israelites distributed to them.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 14 verse 1)

Oh God anything or system that is based on You will last forever. Even though Moses passed away You did not abandon Your people but sent others to take their place. I pray for more vocations to replace those of priests or religious who passed away or maybe resigned from their celibate lives maybe in order to be married or for some other reason Amen.

2. Their inheritance was by lot, as the LORD had commanded Moses for the nine and one-half tribes. 3. For Moses had given an inheritance to the two and one-half tribes beyond the Jordan; but to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 14 verses 2 to 3)

Oh God my Father even though the Levites were not allotted a particular area, they had the greatest inheritance of all which was Your divine presence which always accompanied them at any time of their life Amen. May You always be our inheritance over all the luxuries that the world offers us Amen.

4. For the people of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim; and no portion was given to the Levites in the land, but only towns to live in with their pasture lands for their flocks and herds. 5. The Israelites did as the LORD commanded Moses; they allotted the land.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 14 verses 4 to 5)

Oh God my Father we find an emphasis through repetition that the tribe of Levi were given no particular land as an inheritance only that necessary for their livelihood. Oh God the more possessions we have the more by which we are conditioned. Even though You provide us with all our needs oh God my Father may we never be tied or conditioned by them Amen.

6. Then the people of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal; and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, "You know what the LORD said to Moses the man of God in Kadesh-barnea concerning you and me. 7. I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land; and I brought him an honest report. 8. But my companions who went up with me made the heart of the people melt;yet I wholeheartedly followed the LORD my God. 9. And Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land on which your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance for you and your children forever, because you have whole heartedly followed the LORD my God.' 10. And now, as you see, the LORD has kept me alive, as he said, these forty-five years since the time that the LORD spoke this word to Moses, while Israel was journeying through the wilderness; and here I am today, eighty-five years old. 11. I am still as strong today as I was on the day that Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war and for going and coming. 12. So now give me this hill country of which the LORD spoke on that day; for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities; it may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out, as the LORD said."

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 14 verses 6 to 12)

Oh God, my Father I pray that we may keep our promises as much as You have always kept Yout promises with me. I pray for those who are still bound by negative promises that they have made to their parents or to significant others in relation to issues, maybe such as the choice of husband or wife, even though they did not love that person, to be freed from such bondage, for You do not wish us to lead a life of misery but one of freedom and joy.

13. Then Joshua blessed him and gave Hebron to Caleb son of Jephunneh for an inheritance. 14. So Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholeheartedly followed the LORD, the God of Israel. 15. Now the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath-arba; this Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. And the land had rest from war.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 14 verses 13 to 14)

Oh God my Father You love us so much that You are always open to our requests. If the request is not harmful to us You rarely deny us of anything that we really need. You are our inheritance my, God and Father and there is none like You. May we all bargain and seek our right to inherit a place in heaven, for the acquisitions of the world pass away but those of heaven last forever Amen.

I would like to end this chapter with the following prayer:-

Oh God my Father You are so faithful and true. Ever since the time of Abraham and even before You were always faithful to Your Word. I pray oh God my Father that likewise we be faithful to our Word to follow You in our ways and stop being undecided in our hearts and mind whether to follow You or not. I pray that You give us a spirit of commitment that is firm enough to give us a new sense of motivation that helps us realise that without You, we can do nothing and that our lives become mediocre. Oh God, You are the reason for our life, that particular ingredient which makes my life worth living Amen.

Historical Books Joshua Chapter 13

HISTORICAL BOOKS

JOSHUA

CHAPTER

13

1. Now Joshua was old and advanced in years; and the LORD said to him, "You are old and advanced in years, and very much of the land still remains to be possessed.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 13 verse 1)

Oh God my Father even though You may have used us as Your instruments for many years, there will always be issues that are not yet completely dealt with. However, You always have somebody ready to continue from where we ended amen.

2. This is the land that still remains: all the regions of the Philistines, and all those of the Geshurites 3. (from the Shihor, which is east of Egypt, northward to the boundary of Ekron, it is reckoned as Canaanite; there are five rulers of the Philistines, those of Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron), and those of the Avvim 4. in the south; all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that belongs to the Sidonians, to Aphek, to the boundary of the Amorites, 5. and the land of the Gebalites, and all Lebanon, towards the east, from Baalgad below Mount Hermon to Lebo-hamath, 6. all the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon to Misrephoth-maim, even all the Sidonians. I will myself drive them out from before the Israelites; only allot the land to Israel for an inheritance, as I have commanded you. 7. Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance to the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh."

(Historical Books Chapter 13 verses 2 to 7)

Oh God, my Father, even though there, may still be areas within ourselves that we have not yet been given control over by You in faith we are to behave as though this has been given to us and behave with an attitude of thanksgiving to You my God, even though we have not yet fully obtained our promised land Amen. With You on my side oh God and Father anything is possible. Amen.

8. With the other half-tribe of Manasseh the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond the Jordan eastward, as Moses the servant of the LORD gave them; 9. from Aroer which is on the edge of the Wadi Arnon, and the town that is in the middle of the valley, and all the tableland from Medeba as far as Dibon; 10. and all the cities of King Sihon of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, as far as the boundary of the Ammonites; 11. and Gilead, and the region of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and all Mount Hermon, and all Bashan to Salecah; 12. all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei (he alone was left of the survivors of the Rephaim); these Moses had defeated and driven out. 13. Yet the Israelites did not drive out the Geshurites or  the Maacathites, but Geshur and Maacath live within Israel to this day.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 13 verses 8 to 13)

Oh God my Father, as much as You allotted regions of the promised land to Your people, You also promised us a place in heaven, which is our only promised land, that money cannot buy or corrupt. I pray that after this life on earth, You will make us worthy to enter this land where in Your presence we will experience love, peace and rest for our souls Amen.

14. To the tribe of Levi alone Moses gave no inheritance; the offerings by fire to the LORD God of Israel are their inheritance, as he said to them.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 13 verse 14)

Oh God my Father, the world may offer us many gifts and bonuses and even inheritance, however, You are our greatest inheritance, our treasure for there is none like You. Amen.

15. Moses gave an inheritance to the tribe of the Reubenites according to their clans. 16. Their territory was from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Wadi Arnon, and the town that is in the middle of the valley, and all the tableland by Medeba; 17. with Heshbon. and all its towns that are in the tableland; Dibon, and Bamothbaal, and Beth-baal-meon, 18 and Jahaz and Kedemoth, and Mephaath, 19. and Kiriathaim, and Sibmah, and Zerethshahar on the hill of the valley, 20. and bethpeor, and the slopes of Pisgah, and Bethjeshimoth, 21. that is all the towns of the tableland, and all the kingdom of King Sihon of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses defeated with the leaders of Midian, Evi and Rekem and Zur and Hur and Reba, as princes of Sihon, who lived in the land.

(Historical Books Chapter 13 verses 15 to 21)

As much as Moses divided the inheritance meaning the 'Promised Land' that You had given Your people, on the cross You also gave us our inheritance that is a personal place by Your side in heaven Amen.

22. Along with the rest of those they put to death, the Israelites also put to the sword Balaam son of Beor, who practised divination. 23. And the border of the Reubenites was the Jordan and its banks. This was the inheritance of the Reubenites according to their families, with their towns and villages.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 13 verses 22 to 23)

Oh God my Father, if there, had been a better option to conquer the promised land without having had to kill so many people I believe You would have opted for it. However according to Your wisdom, this was the chosen strategy, to be used so that the plan for our salvation could unfold. I also imagine that as You have mercy on our souls, You also had mercy on that of the people who were killed in order for the occupation of the promised land to take place, even though they may not have believed or been aware of You and Your love for them. Amen.

24. Moses gave an inheritance also to the tribe of the Gadites, according to their families. 25. Their territory was Jazer, and all the towns of Gilead, and half the land of the Ammonites, to Aroer, which is east of Rabbah, 26. and from Heshbon to Ramathmizpeh and Betonim. and from Mahanaim to the territory of Debir, 27. and in the valley Beth-haram, Beth-nimrah, Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of King Sihon of Heshbon, the Jordan and its banks, as far as the lower end of the Sea of Chinnereth, eastward beyond the Jordan. 28. This is the inheritance of the Gadites according to their clans, with their clans, with their towns and villages.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 13 verses 24 to 28)

Oh God, my Father I thank You for not giving us more than is necessary for us to handle, I also thank You for distributing resources according to our needs and not according to our wants, for only You can assess our true wants over our wishes or created needs. Amen

29. Moses gave an inheritance to the half-tribe of Manasseh; it was allotted to the half-tribe of the Manassites according to their families. 30. Their territory extended from Mahanaim, through all Bashan, the whole kingdom of King Og of Bashan, and all the settlements of Jair, which are in Bashan, sixty towns, 31. and half of Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, the towns of the kingdom of Og in Bashan; these were allotted to the people of Machir son of Manasseh according to their clans-for half the Machirites.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 13 verses 29 to 31)

Oh God my Father whether we are a great nation or a small island like Malta, You have an inheritance for us. Among the greatest gifts that You gave to humanity, was Your "Good News', which You guided the Apostle Paul to bring to Malta, even though it is a small island compared to others. I thank You oh God for not discriminating us but also chose us to be among the group of nations to share this bounty of inheritance Amen.

32. These are the inheritances that Moses distributed in the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan east of Jericho. 33. But to the tribe of Levi Moses gave no inheritance the LORD God of Israel is their inheritance as he said to them.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 13 verses 32 to 33)

Oh God my Father, the world allocates inheritance as according to the law. Inheritance of land buildings money and much more that one day we will leave behind at the point of death, however, the inheritance that You give us lasts forever Amen.

I would, therefore, like to end this chapter with the following prayer:-

Oh God, my Father, You are my true inheritance. May the world seek treasures and possessions of gold and silver, but I only seek You my God and Father, treasures of all treasures, wealth beyond all wealth, love and mercy in abundance Amen.
