Historical Books Joshua Chapter 14

HISTORICAL BOOKS

JOSHUA

CHAPTER

14

1. These are the inheritances that the Israelites received in the land of Canaan, which the priest Eleazar, and Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the families of the tribes of the Israelites distributed to them.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 14 verse 1)

Oh God anything or system that is based on You will last forever. Even though Moses passed away You did not abandon Your people but sent others to take their place. I pray for more vocations to replace those of priests or religious who passed away or maybe resigned from their celibate lives maybe in order to be married or for some other reason Amen.

2. Their inheritance was by lot, as the LORD had commanded Moses for the nine and one-half tribes. 3. For Moses had given an inheritance to the two and one-half tribes beyond the Jordan; but to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 14 verses 2 to 3)

Oh God my Father even though the Levites were not allotted a particular area, they had the greatest inheritance of all which was Your divine presence which always accompanied them at any time of their life Amen. May You always be our inheritance over all the luxuries that the world offers us Amen.

4. For the people of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim; and no portion was given to the Levites in the land, but only towns to live in with their pasture lands for their flocks and herds. 5. The Israelites did as the LORD commanded Moses; they allotted the land.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 14 verses 4 to 5)

Oh God my Father we find an emphasis through repetition that the tribe of Levi were given no particular land as an inheritance only that necessary for their livelihood. Oh God the more possessions we have the more by which we are conditioned. Even though You provide us with all our needs oh God my Father may we never be tied or conditioned by them Amen.

6. Then the people of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal; and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, "You know what the LORD said to Moses the man of God in Kadesh-barnea concerning you and me. 7. I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land; and I brought him an honest report. 8. But my companions who went up with me made the heart of the people melt;yet I wholeheartedly followed the LORD my God. 9. And Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land on which your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance for you and your children forever, because you have whole heartedly followed the LORD my God.' 10. And now, as you see, the LORD has kept me alive, as he said, these forty-five years since the time that the LORD spoke this word to Moses, while Israel was journeying through the wilderness; and here I am today, eighty-five years old. 11. I am still as strong today as I was on the day that Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war and for going and coming. 12. So now give me this hill country of which the LORD spoke on that day; for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities; it may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out, as the LORD said."

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 14 verses 6 to 12)

Oh God, my Father I pray that we may keep our promises as much as You have always kept Yout promises with me. I pray for those who are still bound by negative promises that they have made to their parents or to significant others in relation to issues, maybe such as the choice of husband or wife, even though they did not love that person, to be freed from such bondage, for You do not wish us to lead a life of misery but one of freedom and joy.

13. Then Joshua blessed him and gave Hebron to Caleb son of Jephunneh for an inheritance. 14. So Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholeheartedly followed the LORD, the God of Israel. 15. Now the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath-arba; this Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. And the land had rest from war.

(Historical Books Joshua Chapter 14 verses 13 to 14)

Oh God my Father You love us so much that You are always open to our requests. If the request is not harmful to us You rarely deny us of anything that we really need. You are our inheritance my, God and Father and there is none like You. May we all bargain and seek our right to inherit a place in heaven, for the acquisitions of the world pass away but those of heaven last forever Amen.

I would like to end this chapter with the following prayer:-

Oh God my Father You are so faithful and true. Ever since the time of Abraham and even before You were always faithful to Your Word. I pray oh God my Father that likewise we be faithful to our Word to follow You in our ways and stop being undecided in our hearts and mind whether to follow You or not. I pray that You give us a spirit of commitment that is firm enough to give us a new sense of motivation that helps us realise that without You, we can do nothing and that our lives become mediocre. Oh God, You are the reason for our life, that particular ingredient which makes my life worth living Amen.
